Digitalisation as a Mechanism for Preventing Corruption: Between Implementation Difficulties and Proposed Solutions
Keywords:
digitalisation, governance, transparency, corruptionAbstract
Digitalisation is one of the most prominent modern mechanisms adopted by states to combat corruption. Digital administration systems enable greater transparency and oversight of administrative and financial transactions. By reducing human intervention and improving the traceability of processes, digitalisation reduces opportunities for manipulation and bribery. It also accelerates and standardises procedures, thereby limiting the bureaucratic loopholes that are often exploited by corrupt individuals. Furthermore, digital technologies offer powerful tools such as open databases, e-reporting platforms and artificial intelligence systems that analyse data and identify improper practices. Despite infrastructure-related challenges and limited competencies, digitalisation remains an effective means of strengthening governance and transparency in public institutions.
