The Sociological Approach to the Interpretation of the Criminal Phenomenon

Abstract

Society consists of interconnected systems that interact with one another through individuals' interactions. Individuals play a role in establishing social relationships, interacting with others, and occupying social positions, thereby contributing to the construction of a society governed by rules, values, and norms that individuals are expected to respect to satisfy their needs. However, some individuals do not conform to these values and norms, which may lead to deviance, arising from a contradiction or conflict between individual and societal values. Criminal behaviour has become increasingly prevalent in contemporary societies, particularly amid the rapid transformations occurring worldwide. Consequently, crime varies from one society to another depending on social context. This study examines the main sociological approaches developed to interpret crime.
